Major Fighters in UFC 328: Chimaev vs. Strickland

Khamzat Chimaev

Chimaev holds an undefeated record of 15-0, with 9 wins in the UFC. He won his first 4 fights in the UFC by stoppage in either the 1st or 2nd round, and has only gone to decision 3 times, with 6 KO/TKO wins and 6 submission wins. Known for his high pace and aggressive wrestling, Chimaev dominated Dricus Du Plessis to win the middleweight title in his last fight, with over 21 minutes of control time across 5 rounds.

Sean Strickland

Former middleweight champion Sean Strickland won the belt against Israel Adesanya in 2023 before losing to Dricus Du Plessis. He went on to lose the rematch against Du Plessis, but won fights against Paulo Costa and Anthony Hernandez in between. Overall, his professional MMA record now stands at 30-7, with 17 wins and 7 losses in the UFC. 5 of those wins have been by way of KO/TKO, while he also has 1 submission win, which he earned in his UFC debut.

Alexander Volkov

Alexander “Drago” Volkov has been one of the top-ranked UFC heavyweights for many years now. The former Bellator fighter joined the UFC in 2016 and has a record of 13-5 in the promotion, with an overall record of 39-11. He has wins over legends such as Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem, and recently beat Jailton Almeida by split decision after losing a controversial split decision to interim title challenger Cyril Gane. Violkov has won 54% of his UFC fights by stoppage.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta

Cortes-Acosta joined the UFC from the Contender Series in 2022 after finishing his opponent with punches in the 1st round. He’s previously fought in the LFA and Bellator, and now has an overall record of 17-2, with 10 wins and 2 losses in the UFC. Of those wins, 53% came by way of KO/TKO, with 5 stoppage wins in the UFC. Most recently, Cortes-Acosta finished his last 3 opponents, stopping Ante Delija, Shamil Gaziev and Derrick Lewis.

Fight Card & Betting Odds

Main Event

Chimaev was a force of nature when he first came to the UFC, smashing through every opponent as quickly as possible. However, he suffered from health issues that meant he couldn’t accept fights and had long periods of inactivity. Now he’s finally secured the championship, as many predicted when they first saw him fight in 2020, and he looks unstoppable once more.

Strickland will have a very tough test in this fight, but it will also be a unique challenge for Chimaev. The current champion has shown that he’s very much a front-foot fighter who struggles to keep up the pace over 3 rounds. Strickland is known for his excellent takedown defence and cardio, which will be the key to winning this fight. Still, he’s a huge underdog based on the current MMA odds.

Co-Main Event

Volkov has been in the UFC for nearly a decade, and although he hasn't won the title, he remains a top-ranked fighter. His only losses have come to the best, and many fans felt he was unlucky to lose a split decision to Gane in 2024, which ended a 4-fight win streak and his chance of a title shot against Alex Pereira.

Cortes-Acosta has had a fun journey through the UFC since he arrived 4 years ago, and he’s recently found more success with his heavy punching style. However, Volkov has come up against heavy hitters before, such as Pavlovich, and handled them. As a result, Volkov is the current UFC odds betting favourite.
