How does boxing betting work?
In professional boxing, bouts take place over 12 three-minute rounds, with one minute of rest scheduled in between rounds. Fighters must use a clenched, gloved fist to punch. Striking below the belt, in the kidneys, or on the back of an opponent’s neck or head are illegal moves.
Boxing bouts can be settled by knockout, technical knockout, disqualification, or by the judges' decision. In professional boxing, point scoring is a big part of the sport and often contributes to the announcement of the winning fighter.
The judges score each round based on a subjective method, enabling them to identify the winning fighter. If all three judges pick the same fighter, the result is a unanimous decision, but split decisions and draws are also possible.

How do boxing odds work?
Boxing odds show you the implied probability of an outcome, such as Naoya Inoue to win his next fight. The implied probability is the likelihood that an outcome will occur, and the less likely something is, the larger the odds will be. Larger odds mean higher risk, but also greater winnings.
Before you start betting, you should read our guides on how to read odds, and how to compare them to ensure you’re always getting the best value.
Boxing odds can be displayed in a number of different formats at Stake, including decimal, fractional and American. Switch between the formats to find the one you prefer, making it easier for you to calculate your potential payouts and get the best value.

Popular types of boxing betting odds
There are lots of ways to bet on boxing at Stake. Here are some of the most popular fight betting markets:
Winner - Like a moneyline bet, this lets you pick the winner of the fight. It doesn’t matter how a fight is won or how many rounds it lasts - your only concern in a moneyline bet is who wins the fight. For example, betting that Tyson Fury will win his upcoming fight.
1x2 - Also known as winner (Threeway), this works the same as the moneyline bet, but allows you to bet on the draw as the third option. For example, you could bet that the upcoming Mayweather vs Pacquiao bout ends in a draw.
Round betting - Bet on the total rounds you think the fight will last (over/under) or in which exact round you think the fight will end. For example, betting that a fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder ends in round 3.
Method of victory - There are two main ways to win a boxing fight: by KO/TKO or by decision. However, a fight can also sometimes be won by the opponent being disqualified. This market lets you predict how the fight ends. For example, betting that Jesse Rodriguez will win his next fight by KO/TKO.
Prop bets - Prop bets let you bet on specific outcomes that aren’t necessarily tied to the result. For example, whether a fighter will be knocked down, or whether or not the fight goes to decision.
Boxing weight classes and what they mean for betting
In boxing, as with most other combat sports, including Mixed Martial Arts, fighters compete within specific weight classes. This keeps the sport fair and safe, preventing significant size differences that could be dangerous. There are lots of different weight classes in professional boxing, and the top boxers often move between divisions to win multiple belts.
When betting on boxing, it’s important to consider the weight class that they’re fighting in. If a fighter is coming up in weight, they may be at a disadvantage against a boxer fighting at their natural weight. Coming down in weight divisions can also be a disadvantage, especially if there’s a rehydration clause in the contract. This could leave the fighter depleted during the fight.

FAQ about boxing odds and betting
When are boxing betting results considered official?
The result of a boxing match is considered official following the final result announcement in the ring. Bets are settled once the result is declared. On very rare occasions, the announcer may initially declare the incorrect result, but the corrected result will be official.
How is the winner determined in Round Betting?
Round betting lets you predict the exact round in which the fight will end, either by KO or TKO. You win the bet if you predicted the round correctly, while you’ll lose if it ends in a different round or goes to the judge’s scorecards.
What is the difference between a KO and a TKO in boxing betting?
A KO is where the fighter is dropped to the canvas and fails to beat the referee’s count. A TKO is where the referee ends the fight to protect the fighter. TKOs can also occur when the boxer’s corner stops the fight, or if the doctor determines a cut is too severe for the fight to continue.
What happens to bets if a 'no contest' is declared?
If a fight is declared a no contest, all bets on the fight are voided, and all stakes are returned.
