Volleyball Betting - Best Volleyball Odds & Betting Tips Online
Volleyball is becoming increasingly popular. In all corners of the world, there are high-profile domestic leagues, as well as international competitions like the Nations League and the FIVB World Championships.
In this volleyball betting guide, learn how to bet on volleyball at Stake Sportsbook and the major events you can expect in 2026.
History of Volleyball & Top Volleyball Leagues
Volleyball was created in 1895 by William G. Morgan, a physical director at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA. He created the sport to provide an alternative for people who found basketball too strenuous, taking aspects from other sports. For example, the ball used was originally a basketball, the nets were from tennis, and the use of hands was inspired by handball.
Originally, the sport was known as mintonette, though it soon became known as volleyball. Changes were also made to the net to raise it above head height. In 1900, a new ball, which was much lighter and smaller, was introduced. Quickly, it spread across the US, and through the YMCA, it was also brought to other areas of the world.
It was in Asia that the game particularly grew in popularity, with the sport included in the first Far-Eastern Games organised in Manila, Philippines. This is also where new tactics and skills, such as setting and spiking, emerged.
In 1947, the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) was established with representatives from 14 nations, and the first volleyball World Championships for men were held in 1949 and 1952 for women. 1952 was also the year that it was officially agreed upon to spell Volleyball as a single word rather than as two.
In the decades since then, volleyball has grown by leaps and bounds. It’s a professional sport that gets massive attention during the Olympics and has leagues in dozens of countries. Today, some of the top volleyball leagues are the SuperLega in Italy and the PlusLiga in Poland. The Pro Volleyball Federation in the United States is also an emerging force in the volleyball world.
Major Volleyball Tournaments in 2026 to Bet On
Unfortunately, the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship and the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship are only held in odd years, so they won’t be on the volleyball calendar. However, domestic leagues are taking place across the world, including Japan, Belarus, Korea, Greece, Russia, Brazil, China, Italy, and France. Plus, there are a few international club volleyball events fans will want to watch closely in 2026.
9 December 2025 - 17 May 2026 - Men’s CEV Champions League
This is the annual competition of the top club volleyball teams in Europe. The Italian side, Umbria Volley Perugia, won the competition last year.
25 November 2025 - 3 May 2026 - Women’s CEV Champions League
The top women’s European club teams compete for the continental title. Imoco Volley of Italy is the reigning champion.
May - July - FIVB Men’s & Women’s Volleyball Nations League
This will be the 8th edition of the men’s and women’s FIVB Volleyball Nations League. The Nations League has become an annual tournament featuring the top international volleyball teams in the world. The opening weeks are in May, pool play is in June, and the finals are scheduled for July. Poland won the men’s competition last year, while Italy is the reigning champion on the women’s side.

Here are some of the most popular volleyball betting markets at Stake:
Winner
The easiest way to bet on volleyball is to pick the winner of a particular match. Similar to moneyline betting, you don’t need to worry about the margin of victory or which team scores the points – your only concern is which team leaves the court victorious.
Sets
In volleyball, matches are played best of five sets, the first four sets are played to 25 points, and the final set is played to 15 points. To win a set, a team must win by two clear points. There are many different bet types relating to sets, including the outcome of specific sets, the number of sets, and how many sets will be decided by extra points.
Set Handicap
Handicap bets give the favourite a points handicap they need to overcome, which essentially levels the playing field. Due to the handicap, you receive better odds than if you were to bet on the team in a standard winner bet.
Total Points
This betting market allows you to bet on the total number of points scored. Stake sets the totals line, and you place volleyball bets on whether the game sees over or under this number of points scored.
Points Handicap
As with a set handicap in volleyball betting, you can also place a point handicap bet on volleyball games. This type of bet is where one team starts with a specific number of points less than their opponents, and for your bet to be successful, they will need to overcome the point handicap to win the game.
Correct Score
You can also bet on the total score, moving the slider to select the total number of sets won by each team. Score betting is more difficult to predict but has higher potential payouts.
Outright
The outright betting market lets you choose which team you think will win the tournament. You can bet on the outcome of the competition before or during the volleyball season and place a futures bet on any of the participating teams.

Volleyball Betting Strategies & Tips
Since there are so many ways to bet on volleyball at Stake, here are a few tips to keep in mind to give you the best chance of winning.
Have a Plan
It starts with having a budget in mind and not betting more than you can stand to lose. Many bettors also employ a formal system like the Kelly Criterion strategy to help them place smart bets.
Refer to the World Rankings
Use the published World Rankings from FIVB (the world volleyball governing body) as a starting point when betting on an international volleyball match or any of the volleyball leagues. You can find details of the highest-ranked clubs and nations for the 2025 season, helping you to pick teams that are playing well.
Understand the Rules
Though volleyball is a fairly simple game to grasp, there are specific rules that you need to be aware of that may affect your betting strategy. You can watch some games at Stake.com and read up on the associated rules of volleyball if you’re a newcomer to the game before placing a bet.
Check the Roster
As volleyball is a team game, the players' injuries and form determine how well the team performs. If a key player – such as the libero or the main attacker – falls with a knee injury in a previous game, it will significantly affect the team’s chances of success. So, always check the team’s roster and double-check for any injuries to volleyball players before making your selections.
Consider the Hall
An often-overlooked factor influencing volleyball results is the hall in which the game is played. Things like ceiling height, light distribution, and even the distance of the audience from the court can affect a volleyball team. Home advantage is super important, so consider how a team typically fares on its travels before placing your bets. Indoor volleyball and outdoor volleyball can also see very different strategies.
