Soccer Betting Odds at Stake - Real-time Betting

Soccer is by far the most popular sport to bet on here at Stake, and we’re committed to providing the best possible experience to soccer fans. That means you’ll find great odds on all the best football competitions right here, as well as soccer promotions and live streams. Read on to learn more about how to make the most of all of these features as you bet at Stake Sportsbook.

How does soccer betting work?

Soccer betting is simple; you choose a match you want to bet on, then select your bet and enter your stake. For example, a bet on Liverpool to beat Everton. If Liverpool wins the match, your bet wins, and you’ll win a payout based on the betting odds.

If you’re just getting started with soccer betting, it’s worth reading our soccer betting guide and ultimate guide to sports betting. You can also follow these steps to place your first bets:

  1. Log in to your Stake.com account using your password or secure passkey .

  2. Search for the soccer team or competition you want to bet on, or find Soccer using the menu to see all live and upcoming matches to bet on.

  3. Select a match to see the full list of betting markets available.

  4. Choose any bet to add it to your bet slip, then enter your stake, check the potential payout and confirm.

What are soccer betting odds and how to read them?

Soccer betting odds are an indication of the implied probability of an outcome and work the same way as betting odds for any other sport. They determine your payout if your bet is successful, with higher odds meaning a higher possible payout. However, higher odds also show that the probability of that outcome is lower.

You can use our guide to reading odds for more information on what odds mean and how to calculate your payouts. Or learn how to compare odds, as well as the differences between decimal, fractional and American odds.

Swap between odds formats at any time while using Stake to choose the one you prefer. Here’s an example of how to read the 3 most popular types of soccer odds:

How to read decimal soccer odds?

All you have to do is multiply the odds by your stake to understand how much you’ll receive from a winning bet.

As an example of calculating your payout from decimal odds, Aston Villa are 1.60 to beat Bologna. If you placed a $100 bet on Aston Villa and won, you’d get back $160, which would be your original stake, plus $60 profit.

Decimal odds are often the most popular because they’re easy to read and calculate payouts from.

How to read fractional soccer odds?

To calculate payouts from your fractional odds, simply divide the top number of the fraction (numerator) by the bottom number (denominator), then multiply the result by your stake.

As an example of calculating your payout from fractional odds, let’s look at Flamengo vs Independiente Medellin. Independiente Medellin are 11/1 to win. So if you bet $100 on them, you’d make $1,100 in profit, meaning you’d get back $1,200 in total.

Fractional odds are a little more complex, but they tell you exactly how much profit you’ll make, rather than your total payout, so some users prefer them.

How to read american soccer odds?

American soccer lines, sometimes known as moneyline odds, are indicated by a 3-digit number next to either a + or - symbol. Whether a + or - symbol is used will affect how you calculate your payout.

For an example of American soccer odds, let’s look at Nottingham Forest vs Burnley. Nottingham Forest are -192 to win, while Burnley are +520. When the - symbol is used, it shows you how much you’d need to bet in order to make a $100 profit. So if you bet $192 on Burnley and they won, you’d make $100. Meanwhile, if the + symbol is used, it shows you how much you’d win from a $100 bet. So if you bet $100 on Burnley, you’ll win $520 in profit if they win the match.

How do live in-play soccer odds work?

If you’re looking for value in real-time, based on the current momentum and where you think the match is going, then live soccer betting is perfect. Take advantage of favourable odds based on the current state of play to potentially win big with the best odds or have an easy cash-out.

Our guide to live betting and pre-match betting shows some of the differences between in-play betting and pre-match betting, and how to devise the best betting strategy to win at Stake.

Key events that shift in-play odds

While a soccer match is in play, the odds can change dramatically based on events that are happening on the pitch. These events include:

  • Goals - Goals have the biggest impact on live odds, as the scoring team will now have a higher chance of winning, particularly if they’ve gone ahead.

  • Red cards - A team losing a player to a red card can be disastrous, giving their opponents a numerical advantage and making things much harder. Their odds will shorten as a result.

  • Injuries - Injuries will affect the odds during the match. This includes injuries in which players eventually come back on the pitch after treatment.

  • Penalties - A penalty is a high-probability goal-scoring situation, so the team awarded the penalty will suddenly have shortened odds of winning. If a team misses the penalty, it will also affect the odds.

  • Substitutions - Substitutions, including taking off or bringing on key players, usually have an impact on the live odds too.

  • Dangerous attacks - If teams sustain pressure over a long period, indicated by increased possession in their opponent’s half, their chance of scoring increases.

How to read live odds movements on Stake

During the match, you can use the live stats and pitch view, or watch the live stream if it’s available. You’ll also be able to see when the odds change, with a green arrow to show the odds lengthening and a red arrow to show the odds shortening.

Note that at certain times of the match, the betting markets may be temporarily suspended. This typically happens immediately after a goal or other match event, which causes the odds to change. You won’t be able to place a bet while markets are suspended, but this only normally lasts a few seconds.

Coverage of top football leagues and key tournaments on Stake

At Stake, we cover every major soccer competition, including major European club competitions such as the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. What’s more, when the best teams from these leagues go head to head in the Champions League and Europa League, you’ll be able to bet on those matches too. If you feel like betting on the best teams in South America, you can also check out our coverage of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.

Popular types of soccer bets

  • 1x2: The most common way to bet on soccer. Predict the outcome of any match, with three outcomes available. For example, you could place a 1x2 bet on Brighton to beat Tottenham. If it’s a draw or Tottenham win, you lose your bet.

  • Draw No Bet: Like moneyline odds, this is a wager on either side to win the match. If it ends in a draw, your stake is returned. For example, betting on Paris Saint-Germain FC Draw No Bet against Manchester City, your stake is returned if the match is a tie.

  • Double Chance: Bet on 2 separate outcomes, and if either occurs, you’ll win your bet. For example, you can bet on Atlético Madrid to win or draw.

  • Asian Total: The total bet lets you predict the total number of goals scored, choosing over/under goals on a specific line. Asian totals allow you to bet on quarter lines, where part of your stake is returned if you are half correct. For example, over 1.25.

  • Asian Handicap: This allows you to bet on either side to win with either a goal advantage or handicap applied. The Asian quarter handicaps allow you to have half your stake returned if you get it half correct. For example, a 0.25 handicap.

  • Both Teams to Score: Bet on whether or not both teams will score during the match. For example, betting on both teams to score between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

  • Correct Score: Move the sliders to select your predicted final score. For example, betting that FC Barcelona vs Liverpool will finish 2-1.

  • Halftime/fulltime: Bet on the halftime and fulltime match result. For example, Real Betis/Draw

  • Corners: Bet on total corner kicks, first corner, last corner, handicap, odd/even corners and more. You can read our guide to corner betting for more information.

  • Prop bets: These markets include player props like goal scorers, cards and assists. A typical prop betting strategy is to add multiple prop bets to a same game multi.

  • Same Game Multi: Also known as a same-game parlay, this lets you combine multiple bets within the same match to place a same game multibet, increasing the odds and building your own bet.

  • Parlay bets: You can create parlays by adding selections from multiple matches, such as choosing the winners of all the Saturday Premier League matches.

  • Tournament outrights: Futures odds let you make final winner predictions, choose which player will receive an award or which team will be relegated at the end of the season.

  • Minute Markets: These markets allow you to bet on the action within specific intervals of the match, such as the result within the first 10 minutes or the 10-minute interval in which the first goal will be scored.

  • 1UP & 2UP bets: Early payout bets allow you to secure your winnings when your selection takes an early advantage by 1 or 2 goals.

Live streaming for soccer on Stake

Stake offers free live streams on selected soccer matches, including major European soccer competitions such as the Bundesliga, Copa Del Rey, La Liga and Ligue 1. You can also log in to watch live qualifying matches for major continental club competitions such as the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. Just look for the live stream icon, and select the match to follow the action as it happens on the pitch.

Soccer betting strategies

  1. Check recent form - Most teams go through patches of good or bad form depending on a lot of different factors, including confidence and fatigue. Generally, you want to bet on teams that are in good form, but you should consider additional factors such as home and away records.

  2. Pay attention to team news - Most teams rely on key players to make the difference in matches, whether that’s a crucial defender or a striker who scores goals for fun. Before you bet, check the team news and look out for injuries to key players.

  3. Study all available stats - Statistics give you the information you need to make winning bets. You can study things like head-to-head records and expected goals scored to better understand how a team will perform.
