Introduction to Counter-Strike 2 Intel Extreme Masters Betting
The Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) is the longest-running professional gaming tournament in Counter-Strike history, first founded by ESL in 2006. It’s sponsored by Intel, and although the IEM has hosted other games over the years, it currently has a focus on Counter-Strike 2. Few events in professional Esports carry the prestige of winning an IEM, and IEM Rio is also part of the ESL Grand Slam.
Teams that win 4 S-tier ESL tournaments within 10 consecutive tournaments are awarded the Grand Slam, along with a cool $1 million in prize money.
When is IEM Rio 2026?
IEM Rio 2026 gets underway on 13 April and will conclude on 19 April. The playoffs are held at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
History of the Intel Extreme Masters Series (ESL Grand Slam)
The Electronic Sports League (ESL) founded the IEM tournament circuit in 2006, originally focusing on Counter-Strike and Starcraft II tournaments in Europe. However, it’s since grown to feature events all over the world. It forms part of the ESL Pro Tour (EPT), where teams can earn points for competing in ESL events, which will then allow them to qualify for the biggest competitions.
In 2017, ESL created the Grand Slam, which offers a $1 million prize to any team that wins 4 S-tier ESL events, including IEM Katowice, IEM Cologne or another ESL-organised Major Championship. Since then, there have been five Grand Slam winners, including Team Vitality, which just won its first Grand Slam in 2025, joining FaZe Clan (2023), Natus Vincere (2021), Team Liquid (2019) and Astralis (2018).
IEM Kraków Recap
The First IEM of the year was held in Kraków, Poland, in February. Team Vitality won all of their group stage matches 2-0, automatically qualifying for the semi-finals of the playoffs, where they met MOUZ. After beating MOUZ 2-0, they faced FURIA in the Grand Final, winning the series 3-1 to be crowned champions of IEM Kraków 2026. Meanwhile, Team Spirit beat MOUZ in the third-place match. Astralis, unfortunately, failed to make the playoffs after losing 2-1 to FURIA in the lower bracket final of the group stage.

Format and Schedule of IEM Rio 2026
13-15 April - Group Stage
16 teams enter the group stage, where they are placed into one of 2 double-elimination brackets. Matches are played to the best of 3 games during this stage, and the top 3 teams from each group advance to the playoffs.
17-19 April - Playoffs
The group stage winners advance to the semifinals of the playoffs, while the group stage runners-up enter the quarterfinals as the high seeds against the 3rd place teams. This stage uses a single-elimination bracket, and all matches except the Grand Final are played to the best of 3 games. The Grand Final is a best-of-5 series.
Teams can win a share of the $300,000 prize pool, with the champions of this offline tournament taking home $125,000.
