The 2025-26 CAF Champions League includes preliminary rounds, a group stage, and knockout stages. A total of 62 teams are participating in the competition, beginning with 2 qualifying rounds. In each qualifying round, teams are paired together for home and away matches, with the aggregate winner advancing.
After the qualifying rounds, there are 16 teams left to participate in the group stage. There are 4 groups of 4 teams that play a double round-robin, with the top 2 teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and final are all two-legged playoffs with home and away matches, just like the qualifying rounds.
When is the CAF Champions League?
The first qualifying round of the 2025-26 CAF Champions League took place in September 2025. Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns both received a bye to the second qualifying round. The two legs of the second qualifying round are scheduled for the second half of October. After the second qualifying round, the 16 remaining teams will be drawn into 4 separate groups. The quarterfinals and semifinals are typically played in April, with the two legs of the finals played in May.

There are 12 associations eligible to send 2 teams to the 2025-26 CAF Champions League, allowing both the champions and runners-up from the 2024-25 season in those domestic leagues to participate in the competition. The 38 remaining teams are the 2024-25 season league champions from domestic leagues throughout Africa. The participants include reigning champs Pyramids FC, as well as past CAF Champions League title winners like Orlando Pirates, ES Tunis, AS FAR, and JS Kabylie.
