Introduction to Dota 2 - BLAST Slam
Dota 2 is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game, where two teams of 5 players compete to gain control of the battlefield. The game blends strategy and action, with each player taking control of a hero with unique abilities. Teammates work together to defeat their opponents and destroy the enemy’s base.
The BLAST Slam tournament is a Tier 1 event organised by BLAST, a Danish Esports company. It features 12 of the best teams in the world, competing across 4 stages for a chance to win a share of the $1 million prize pool.
History of BLAST Slam
BLAST was founded in 2016 and is best known for being one of the major tournament organisers for the Counter-Strike Esports scene. Although the company had previously only organised Counter-Strike tournaments, it launched its first Dota 2 tournament, the BLAST Bounty Hunt, in 2020. In 2024, the company announced a full expansion into the world of competitive Dota 2 with the introduction of the BLAST Slam series.
The First BLAST Slam got underway in November 2024, featuring 10 teams. From BLAST Slam 4 onwards, the event was expanded to include 12 teams, adding qualifiers for Europe, China, and Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, teams from the Americas receive an invite based on recent performances. One team from the host region also receives an invite to BLAST Slam events.
The inaugural BLAST Slam event was won by BetBoom Team, and since then, there have been 4 further events. Tundra Esports has the record for most wins, with 4 BLAST Slam titles.
BLAST Slam 5 Recap
At BLAST Slam V, Team Falcons and Tundra Esports finished in the top 2 spots of the group stage, earning their spot in the semifinals. Team Yandex and MOUZ advanced through the play-in and playoffs to join them. Team Yandex defeated Team Falcons, while Tundra Esports were victorious against MOUZ. In the Grand Final, Tundra Esports secured their 4th consecutive BLAST Slam title, beating Team Yandex 3-0 and taking home $400,000 in prize money and team earnings.
When is BLAST Slam 6?
The BLAST Slam VI tournament starts on 3 February. The playoffs will be held at BLAST Studios in Attard, Malta.

Format and Schedule of BLAST Slam 6
3-5 February - Group Stage
12 teams play in a round-robin group stage, competing against every other team. Matches are played as single games, and the top 2 teams advance to the semifinals. 3rd to 8th place teams enter the play-in round, while the 9th to 12th place teams compete in the last chance playoff.
6-8 February - Last Chance Playoff and Play-In
Matches during this stage are played to the best of 3 games, and winners advance to the quarterfinals of the playoffs, while losing teams are eliminated from the competition.
13-15 February - Playoffs
The top 6 teams in the competition make the playoffs, competing in a single-elimination bracket. All matches, including the Grand Final, are played to the best of 5 games.
