National League 2026 Betting Odds & Fixtures - Bet on English National League Football Online

For most people, the birthplace of soccer is England, a country filled with historic football clubs. While the Premier League is the most-watched football league in the world, English football consists of multiple tiers, including the National League. You can bet on National League games at Stake Sportsbook, following the action as teams from across the country compete to become champions.

What is the National League & History of National League Soccer?

The English football pyramid consists of ten main tiers, with promotion and relegation working between each tier. Below the Premier League are the Championship, League One, and League Two. Directly below League Two is what’s known as non-league football, with the National League at the top, then National League North and National League South below.

In 1979, top teams from the Northern Premier League and the Southern League joined together to form the Alliance Premier Football League. From the 1986-87 season, this league became known as the Football Conference.

For the first 25 years, the Conference was a single division, but from 2004-05 onwards, it has included two lower divisions, the Conference North and Conference South. In 2015, the Conference was renamed to the National League, with the lower divisions changed to the National League North and National League South.

Teams to have won the most National League titles are:

  • Barnet (1991, 2005, 2015, 2025)

  • Macclesfield Town (1995, 1997, 2018)

  • Altrincham (1980, 1981)

  • Enfield (1983, 1986)

  • Kidderminster Harriers (1994, 2001)

  • Maidstone United (1984, 1989)

  • Stevenage Borough (1996, 2010)

  • Lincoln City (1988, 2017)

Barnet are the current champions of the National League.

Format & Schedule of the 2026 National League

The National League features 24 teams in total, and over the course of the season, each team will play a home and away fixture against every other opponent. Three points are earned for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. The National League table shows the rankings of each team based on their total points.

  • The regular season kicked off with the first fixtures on 09 August 2025.

  • The final fixtures of the National League will be on 25 April 2026.

  • Provisional playoff final dates will be 09/10 May 2026.

The team at the top of the table at the end of the season is crowned champion, with a direct promotion to League Two. The winner of the play-offs will join the league champions in League Two the following season.

National League Football Betting Tips, Predictions & Strategies

The National League is one of the most topsy-turvy competitions in world soccer. When Wrexham were taken over by Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, it was predicted they would stroll to success, but they would struggle to get out of the league.

For that reason, it isn’t possible to guarantee a win, but there are still some tips, tricks, and betting analysis approaches that you can use to try for a better betting experience, including:

  • Avoid promotion bets: Unlike the English League One and English League Two, only one team is automatically promoted from the National League every year. Because of this, selecting teams to be promoted is significantly more difficult in the National League - York City were not promoted despite getting 96 points, 23 more than playoff winners Oldham, in 2024-25.

  • Stay up to date: Understanding context is key in National League betting. Big names can be relegated from the EFL, and it can be tempting to place a bet on those big names to win. However, sides like Morecambe are often relegated due to financial issues and club turmoil, so betting on the recognisable club is not always sensible.

  • Manage your bankroll: An important part of a successful betting portfolio is managing your funds and staying in control of your bankroll. Take time to read our blog, where you can find guides on using bankroll management strategies like the Labouchere and Kelly Criterion system.

  • Look outside standard markets: Proposition bets - bet types not related to the moneyline or outright markets - can offer great value. For example, there are often prolific goal scorers like Jamie Vardy and Oliver Norwood in the league, so a bet on the number of goals scored within games or across a season can lead to success.
