Brazilian Serie A 2026 Betting Odds & Lines - Bet on Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Football & Soccer

Brazil’s national league, known as the Brasileirao, Serie A or Brazilian Serie A, is home to some of the most famous clubs in soccer. The Serie A features the top teams from across Brazil and has produced many of the world’s most legendary players. You can bet on soccer, including every game in the Brazilian Serie A this season and watch all the action live right here at Stake Sportsbook.

What is the Brazilian Serie A League?

The Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, better known simply as the Brasileirao or Serie A, is the highest level of Brazilian professional football and the strongest national league in South America. In 2021, it was also chosen as the strongest league in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.

History of the Brazilian Serie A League

Compared to the national leagues in other footballing nations, Brazil’s Serie A is relatively new. For many years, the state championships within each Brazilian state were the biggest and most prestigious competitions. Games were occasionally played between state champions, including the Torneio dos Campeões, which was held in 1937 with fully professional clubs for the first time.

When the Copa Libertadores (similar to the UEFA Champions League) was established, Brazil needed to hold a nationwide tournament to determine which club would enter. This led to the creation of the Taça Brasil in 1959. However, it wasn’t until 1971 that the first tournament, referred to as a national championship, was held.

Since it was first created, the competition format and the number of teams taking part in the Campeonato Brasileiro have changed almost every season. In 2006, the format was fixed to 20 teams in a round-robin format, creating the Serie A.

17 different clubs have won the competition since its inception, and Palmeiras are currently the record holders with 12 titles.

Format & Schedule of the 2026 Brazilian Serie A League

Today, the Brazilian Serie A shares many similarities with other national soccer leagues, including the Premier League, La Liga and Italy’s Serie A. Each team plays a home and away fixture against each opponent, for a total of 38 games per team over the season.

For winning a match, teams earn 3 points, with 1 point shared between teams when a game is tied. Losses result in 0 points. Point totals are tallied up and used to rank each team in the Serie A table. At the end of the season, the team with the most points is crowned champion, while the 4 bottom teams are relegated to Serie B for next season, and the top 4 teams in Serie B are promoted. The top 5 clubs in Serie A qualify for the Copa Libertadores, while clubs from 6th to 11th qualify for the Copa Sudamericana.

If teams are tied competing for the championship, avoiding relegation or qualifying for international competitions, head-to-head records and total goals scored in the league are used to separate them. If these are still tied, then a play-off match at a neutral venue determines the winner.
