2025 Miami Open Recap
The 2025 edition of the Miami Open threw up some interesting results, and that could provide some interesting context for those looking to triumph this time around.
Men’s Champions
Jakub Menšík is just outside the current ATP top 10, but he was able to overcome Novak Djokovic in 2025, establishing himself as a potential star at just 20 years old. The Czech triumphed without dropping a set.
Elsewhere, the current number one, Alcaraz, was dumped out in the second round. As a top seed, he received a bye directly to that stage and, thus, fell at the first hurdle. Given that Jannik Sinner was unable to compete and defend his championship in 2025, it was an unusual tournament that saw an unfavoured victor.
Women’s Champion
On the WTA side, things were a little more typical. Aryna Sabalenka was the first seed for the event, and she defeated Jessica Pegula, who was the fourth seed, in straight sets. The Belarusian had a great year in the States, also claiming the US Open and losing in the final at the BNP Paribas Open.
Her opponent in that final, Mirra Andreeva, however, would have a devastating time in Miami. She was dumped out in the third round by Amanda Anisimova, who was then bested by the Brit Emma Raducanu, herself defeated by the finalist, Pegula.
2026 Miami Open Predictions & Favourite Tennis Picks
Anything can happen between now and the main draw of the Miami Open, so coming up with tennis predictions for both the singles and doubles competitions is a difficult task. However, there are a handful of names that will always feature highly in the betting odds.
Men’s Favourites
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are certain to be many people’s top picks to triumph this year, and their final positions at Indian Wells will likely be what moves the needle in either’s favour. However, Djokovic’s feat of becoming the oldest finalist in ATP Australian Open history earlier in the year should have the two young guns looking over their shoulders, especially as the elder statesman defeated Sinner in the semifinals of that competition.
Women’s Favourites
Elena Rybakina claimed the first Slam of the year by winning Down Under at the WTA Australian Open, and because of that, she should be considered a favourite for the Miami Open. However, the player she defeated, Sabalenka, probably just about edges her out after impressive showings at the Slam and in winning at the WTA 500 Brisbane International. Much like with the men’s game, performance at Indian Wells will hold major sway.
