In the NFC, the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles held serve to win the NFC East. In the NFC North, Caleb Williams enjoyed a breakout season to help the Chicago Bears win the division title. In the NFC South, Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers endured a late-season losing streak, making the Carolina Panthers another surprising division champ. Finally, the Seattle Seahawks outlasted both the Rams and 49ers to win a competitive NFC West.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was Daniel Jones, who helped the Indianapolis Colts start the season 8-2. Unfortunately, Jones suffered a season-ending injury, prompting the shocking return of 44-year-old Philip Rivers, who came out of retirement to start two games for the Colts. Joe Burrow was also among the key injuries during the season. He missed a big chunk of the season, dooming the Cincinnati Bengals to another losing season. The Bengals join the Chiefs, Ravens, Lions, Buccaneers, and Commanders on a list of the most disappointing NFL teams in 2025.

Last year’s Super Bowl was historic, although not necessarily the most competitive game ever. While the Chiefs were aiming to become the first franchise to win three consecutive Super Bowls, the Eagles dominated the first three quarters of the game, taking a 34-0 lead until the Chiefs scored late in the third quarter. Naturally, the game lacked late drama, as Jalen Hurts won Super Bowl MVP honors, throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Both the Patriots and Seahawks are worthy Super Bowl participants. However, Seattle has been the most complete and balanced team in the NFL season. The Seahawks have proven that they can win both high-scoring affairs with their offense and low-scoring games with their defense. They have also proven themselves this season against a formidable schedule, winning eight games this season against playoff teams, whereas New England only won five.
